Backpackers voice their concerns over delayed tax

With the government and the opposition still jostling for position over the agreement of a percentage rate for the backpacker tax, one of the elements of the plan, the 95% tax on Super appears to have received a firm thumbs down from backpackers themselves.

At last weeks Adventure Travel & Backpacker Industry Conference a 24 year old Dutch Backpacker, who is currently working in the travel industry, informed the delegates she was aware of a number of friends and fellow backpackers who were planning to leave Australia before the new law (whatever that eventually is) starts on January 1st 2017, so their earnings to date would not be subject to the new laws.  She suggested some of them would go to Canada and New Zealand, but most were certainly ending their Australian adventure.

It has been reported that the bill will pass the senate within the next three weeks, but no word on what the final details of the bill might look like.
